Why Sherwood

A classroom designed around the child — not the other way around

Everything here starts with the child. Sunlight pours through big windows, colors stay soft, and shelves stay uncluttered — so attention settles, work deepens, and even our youngest students can reach, choose, and put away their materials all by themselves.

1

Not a trend — a century of proof

Montessori philosophy and materials have guided children for over a hundred years, in private and public schools alike.

2

Learn at your own pace

Following Dr. Maria Montessori’s approach, children repeat and master each activity on their own timeline, strengthening focus and cognition.

3

The idea of “why”

No rote tricks or mnemonics — children handle real materials until the how and the why genuinely make sense to them.

Programs

One continuous journey, from first steps to first grade readiness

Children move through three Montessori classrooms as they grow — each one prepared for exactly what they are ready to learn next.

The Infant Room

A gentle, home-like first classroom where our youngest children are nurtured by warm, dedicated caregivers. Safe floor exploration, sensory play, and unhurried one-on-one care help babies absorb language, movement, and trust from day one.

  • Calm, home-like environment
  • Movement and sensory exploration
  • Individualized feeding and sleep rhythms

The Toddler Community

Toddlers are built to do it themselves. Our toddler classrooms channel that drive into pouring, carrying, sorting, and caring for their space — building fine-motor control, early language, and the confidence that comes from real accomplishment.

  • Practical life and self-care skills
  • Rich language through songs and stories
  • Grace, courtesy, and first friendships

The Primary Classroom

Our preschool and kindergarten classroom runs on four great areas of work — Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Mathematics — enriched with art, music, science, geography, and cultural studies. Children leave reading, writing, and reasoning with joy.

  • Early literacy and hands-on mathematics
  • Mixed-age mentoring and leadership
  • Kindergarten readiness, the Montessori way

Growing with your family: we also offer after-school care for school-age children, with full-time and part-time schedules to fit your week.

The Montessori Way

Four areas of work, one remarkable childhood

In a Montessori classroom, children don’t listen to lectures — they learn by doing. Explore the four areas that fill a Primary child’s day.

Practical Life

Practical life is the bridge between home and classroom. Pouring, buttoning, sweeping, and caring for plants develop fine-motor control, order, and concentration — and complete, satisfying cycles of work leave children feeling capable and confident. It is also where grace and courtesy are practiced every day.

Education is not something which the teacher does, but a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being… The teacher’s task is not to talk, but to prepare a special environment made for the child. — Dr. Maria Montessori
